In the mid-1980s, desktop publishing was a new phenomenon, and publishers were gingerly exploring the technology. Galen Gruman then worked at the IEEE Computer Society, one of the first publishers to convert to desktop publishing. As part of testing and then converting its publications, Galen shared his findings with other publishers with several articles in the industry trade Magazine Design & Production.
